The formal handover took place on Friday, led by the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Frank Onyeka. The seizure is the latest result of an intensified anti-smuggling campaign aimed at purging the Nigerian market of dangerous, illicit substances.

​“This consignment is illegal and dangerous for public consumption,” warned Comptroller Onyeka. “Our command remains proactive in intercepting controlled pharmaceuticals, narcotics, and any items that threaten the economic stability and safety of our citizens.”

​Comptroller Onyeka attributed the successful operation to the leadership of Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adeniyi, and the disciplined application of intelligence-led enforcement.

He emphasized that while the command is dedicated to facilitating legitimate trade and driving revenue, it will never compromise on the enforcement of safety laws.

​Mr. Kareem Adekunle, NAFDAC’s Chief Regulatory Officer, received the goods on behalf of the agency. He confirmed that the expired products are slated for immediate destruction by burning, preventing any possibility of them entering the local supply chain.
