The Executives and members of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Lagos State Chapter, have paid a courtesy visit to the Deputy National President of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Dr. Abimbola Abosede Oyetunde, at her office in Broadcasting House, Ikoyi, Lagos.

Dr. Oyetunde, the first female Deputy National President of the NUJ, was recently appointed Bureau Chief, FRCN Network, and Deputy Director of News at the Directorate Headquarters Annex, Ikoyi, in recognition of her trailblazing achievements and longstanding commitment to the advancement and welfare of journalists, particularly women in the media.

Speaking during the visit, the Chairperson of NAWOJ Lagos, Mrs. Jumoke Johnson, extolled Dr. Oyetunde’s exceptional leadership and unwavering advocacy for journalists’ rights, with particular emphasis on her support for women journalists within the union.

Johnson described Dr. Oyetunde as a torchbearer and role model, whose career continues to inspire women across the media landscape.

“NAWOJ Lagos is proud to have Dr. Abimbola Oyetunde as a member of our chapter. She represents what is possible through dedication, excellence, and service. We look forward to her continued mentorship and support,” Johnson said.

She further recalled that Dr. Oyetunde served meritoriously as General Manager of Bronze FM, Benin City, where she spent nearly a decade contributing to the growth and professionalism of the station.

The NAWOJ Lagos Chairperson also used the opportunity to brief the NUJ Deputy National President on the association’s programmes and planned activities for the new year, all aimed at advancing the mission and vision of NAWOJ and strengthening women’s participation in journalism.

In her response, Dr. Abimbola Oyetunde expressed appreciation to the NAWOJ Lagos delegation for the visit and the honour accorded her.

She encouraged the executives to explore additional platforms and initiatives that would further strengthen the association and enhance its impact.

Dr. Oyetunde thanked the delegation for their show of solidarity and offered prayers for the continued growth and success of NAWOJ Lagos in the new year
