Access Bank Retains Nigeria’s Most Valuable Brand Title for Fifth Straight Year

Lagos, Nigeria – April 13, 2026 — Access Bank Plc has once again emerged as Nigeria’s most valuable brand, marking its fifth consecutive year at the top, according to the latest rankings by Brand Finance.

The recognition was announced in the Brand Finance Nigeria 25 2026 Report, which evaluates the country’s leading brands based on key metrics such as brand value, brand strength, and overall business performance. In this year’s report, Access Bank recorded a brand value of ₦773.2 billion, maintaining its number one position despite prevailing macroeconomic challenges.

According to Brand Finance, the slight year-on-year dip in the bank’s valuation reflects a calculated strategic decision rather than weakening performance. The bank has continued to prioritise long-term growth, regional expansion, and international scale over short-term domestic profitability.

The report highlighted that Access Bank’s consistent leadership is rooted in a forward-looking brand strategy focused on scale, trust, and regional relevance. This approach has enabled the bank to remain resilient and competitive as Nigeria’s economy gradually recovers and the financial services landscape evolves.

A key factor in sustaining its top ranking is the bank’s transformation into a cross-continental financial services provider. Stronger contributions from its African operations helped cushion reduced income from the Nigerian market, reinforcing its ambition to serve as a major gateway between Africa and global financial markets.

In addition to its top ranking in brand value, Access Bank also improved its standing on the Brand Strength Index (BSI), climbing to third place nationally with a score of 88.7 out of 100. The bank retained its prestigious AAA brand rating, an indication of strong brand equity and market confidence. Brand Finance attributed this progress to enhanced brand consistency across markets and clearer strategic positioning following the consolidation of its international acquisitions.

Commenting on the report, Babatunde Odumeru, Managing Director of Brand Finance Nigeria, noted a significant shift in the business environment from survival to resilience.

He emphasised that trust has become a critical driver of growth, particularly in an era where consumers are more cautious in their spending. According to him, brands that demonstrate reliability are more likely to earn customer loyalty and sustain long-term value.

Odumeru further observed that the 2026 rankings were largely dominated by the banking and manufacturing sectors. He attributed this trend to their resilience and increasing digital sophistication, which have enabled stronger customer engagement and loyalty. This synergy, he said, continues to play a vital role in strengthening Nigeria’s overall brand landscape.

The Brand Finance Nigeria 25 Report is published annually and provides a comprehensive assessment of the country’s most valuable brands through a blend of financial analysis, market research, and brand performance indicators.
