Dangote Group has announced a series of strategic technical partnerships to support the next phase of expansion of its fertiliser operations in Nigeria, as well as the development of new fertiliser plants in Ethiopia. The collaborations mark a major stride in the Group’s long-term plan to strengthen regional food security, boost agricultural productivity and enhance Africa’s position in the global fertiliser market.

Through the new partnerships, Dangote Group will increase its urea production capacity in Nigeria from the current three million metric tonnes to nine million metric tonnes annually. The existing two production trains deliver three million metric tonnes, and the expansion will add four new trains to meet rising demand for high-quality fertiliser across Africa and international markets.

Beyond Nigeria, the Group recently held the groundbreaking ceremony for a $2.5bn fertiliser plant in Gode, Ethiopia. Designed to produce three million metric tonnes of urea yearly, the facility reinforces Dangote Group’s commitment to food security and industrial growth across the continent.

To ensure world-class standards in technology, reliability and operational efficiency, the Group has signed the following partnership agreements:

Topsoe

Topsoe will provide ammonia technology licensing and complete process design packages for six ammonia plants — four in Nigeria and two in Ethiopia. The company is globally renowned for its advanced, energy-efficient ammonia technologies.

Saipem

Saipem will supply technology licensing and the full process design package for urea melt units across all six plants (four in Nigeria and two in Ethiopia), leveraging its long-standing expertise in fertiliser engineering.

Thyssenkrupp (UFT)

Thyssenkrupp’s UFT division will deliver granulation technology licensing and complete process design packages for granulation units. This will ensure the production of premium-grade urea granules suitable for both domestic and export markets.

Engineers India Limited (EIL)

Engineers India Limited has been appointed as project management consultant and EPC management consultant for the four fertiliser plants being developed by DFFZE in Lekki, Nigeria. EIL brings decades of experience in major industrial project delivery.

These global partnerships underscore Dangote Group’s commitment to building high-quality industrial assets that meet international standards. The expansion is expected to significantly increase regional urea and ammonia output, create thousands of jobs, strengthen agricultural value chains and support sustainable economic growth in Nigeria, Ethiopia and across Africa.
